Job summary

Verisk Analytics is seeking a Staff Attorney to support its Life Solutions division in Jersey City, NJ. The role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial contracts, advising on risk, privacy, IP, and regulatory matters, and collaborating across teams to deliver practical legal solutions.

The position operates on a hybrid model requiring three days in the office with two remote days, reporting to the Chief Litigation & Managing Counsel.

Qualifications

• JD degree from a U.S.-accredited law school.
• Admission to NJ State Bar or eligible for NJ in-house counsel limited license.
• 5+ years legal experience in commercial contracting, including software licenses and support services, gained in a law firm and/or in-house legal department.
• Strong contract management experience, including drafting and negotiating, is required.
• Experience in life insurance or financial services and interest in data preferred.
• Privacy and intellectual property experience preferred.
• Comfortable operating in a client‑facing role.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Team‑oriented. Values and emphasizes cooperation and teamwork across business units.
• Strong work ethic and must be able to independently manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts for Verisk Life Solutions.
• Advise on contractual risk, privacy, IP, and regulatory considerations for sales, product, and operations.
• Interpret Verisk templates and playbooks; escalate non-standard terms and risk issues.
• Collaborate with privacy, compliance, security, product, and finance to deliver practical legal solutions.
• Support contracting with customers, vendors, and partners, including FAST-related post-acquisition matters.
• Perform legal research on commercial, data, IP, and regulatory issues affecting Life Solutions products and services.
• Contribute to improving contract processes, templates, and internal guidance.
• Handle additional commercial or corporate projects as assigned.
