Salary:
ROLE SUMMARY
The Estimator 2 will continue learning Welty processes and tools and developing professional skills while assisting with the preparation of more complex cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals. This position will experience many facets of the construction and estimating process to develop a greater understanding of the building process and how Welty executes projects. All activities will support the strategy, vision, and values of Welty.
Autonomy and Decision Making: Makes decisions on routine matters, provides recommendations to supervisor, and refers all exceptions to supervisor.
Career Path: Estimator 3.
KEY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
ESTIMATING FAMILY CORE
- Performs quantity survey of materials shown on project plans.
- Reads and outlines project specifications.
- Maintains an audit trail of the quantity survey from estimate to estimate.
- Supports vendor/subcontractor pricing/bid solicitation and coordination.
- Supports the distribution of plans and specifications to vendors/subcontractors.
- Works collaboratively and creates relationships with project team members, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
- Gains self-perform estimating experience.
- Gains field operational exposure through onsite project support, as opportunities exist.
ESTIMATOR 2
In addition, this position will be responsible for:
- Proficiency in preparing a complete hard bid estimate.
- Prepares components of more complex cost estimates for competitive bids and negotiated proposals.
- Prepares material costs summary for quotes from vendors.
- Assists with tracking value creation items from development through and documents in project documentation.
- Develops scopes of work for specific trades and receives and analyzes subcontractor/vendor pricing. Provides on-the-job guidance to coworkers and shares subject matter expertise to support team learning and development.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITY
- Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Ability to read and understand drawings and specifications.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software.
- Proficiency in required construction technology.
- Knowledge of construction management methods.
- Ability to learn quantity surveys.
- Knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work.
- Knowledge of Lean processes and philosophy.
- Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally.
EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field. Equivalent relevant experience will also be considered.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 2+ years of construction experience.
CERTIFICATIONS AND PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS
- Successful completion of company training and role-specific professional development coursework within the required timeframe.
- OSHA 30 training completed within the required timeframe.
- First Aid Certification and CPR completed and maintained.
- Membership or certification from the American Society of Professional Estimators.
- Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Green Associate certification.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds.
- May require overnight travel.
- Willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project demands.
- Normal office environment, with potential exposure to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
- Frequent activity includes sitting and viewing computer screens; occasional activity includes standing, walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
