COMMERCIAL CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER I - CORRECTIONS CODE ENFORCEMENT

CLASSIFICATION TITLE: Code Enforcement Officer I
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to inspect new/existing businesses locations for proper occupational tax certificates, identify violations, issue citations to violators, ensure compliance with applicable county ordinances, assist with updating business address, and to respond to complaints of potential property maintenance code and zoning code violations, conduct inspections, identify violations, initiate action against violators, research property ownership records, and work to preserve property values and ensure safe, sanitary and reasonable conditions per established codes/ordinances.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the works is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. All duties may not be performed in all departments. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Visits new/existing commercial locations within jurisdiction; monitors territory on a daily basis to identify new or closed businesses; verifies whether businesses have active license and have it posted in public view; Receives zoning complaint calls pertaining to commercial/residential property; takes inventory and issues citations of unkempt exterior signage, façade deterioration, proliferation of outside storage, trash and debris and overflowing dumpsters. Assists in enforcing the provisions of applicable federal, state, and local codes, ordinances, rules, regulations, specifications, standards, policies and procedures. Maintains a current knowledge of applicable codes, laws, and regulations; maintains an awareness of new trends and advances in the profession. Assist other department clerical personnel as needed. Serves as a back up to other staff members as needed. Performs other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by two (2) years previous experience and/or training in a related field of code enforcement inspections, customer service, administrative works, and/or human interaction; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job. ICC Housing Rehabilitation Inspector Certification with one (1) year of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s license. Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, depth, and visual cues, or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
