CBRE Government and Defense is seeking a Laborer to perform custodial and grounds maintenance at our Simpsonville, SC facility. The role supports high-traffic areas, maintains interior and exterior spaces, and ensures safety and cleanliness per contract standards.

The position requires at least a high school diploma and 1+ years of supervisory experience. Expect physical duties, outdoor work, and potential benefits eligibility.

Qualifications

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1+ years of prior Shift Manager or supervisory experience.
• Physical requirements include lifting 50 lbs or more.
• Occasional exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust, and chemicals.
• Ability to communicate and work independently or as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily cleaning support in high-traffic areas as directed by supervisor.
• Stock bathrooms with toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and soap.
• Sweep, vacuum, mop storage areas, hallways, restrooms, elevators, etc.
• Dust furniture, walls, and equipment; move items as needed.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
• Ensure cleaning supplies are stored safely.
• Attend regular staff meetings and required in-service training.
• Follow standard cleaning procedures per company/government contract standards.
• Perform groundskeeping duties: cut grass, trim hedges, prune shrubs.
• Water lawns and plants; dispose of leaves and litter.

Job Summary

This position performs routine custodial and grounds maintenance duties to maintain clean, safe, and well-kept interior and exterior facilities in accordance with established procedures and company standards.

Primary Job Functions

Custodial Duties

• Provide daily cleaning support to high‑traffic areas of the building designated by the supervisor.
• Stock bathrooms with toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, and soap.
• Sweep, vacuum, wipe, and mop storage units, hallways, restrooms, elevators, etc.
• Dust furniture, walls, and equipment, including moving and rearranging items as needed.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
• Ensure that cleaning supplies are stored in a safe, secure area always.
• Complete standardized cleaning processes per company and government contract standards.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment.
• Attend regular staff meetings and required in‑service training sessions.
• Follow basic work routines and standards in the application of work.
• Use existing procedures to solve straightforward problems while having limited opportunity to exercise discretion.

Groundskeeping Duties

• Cut grass using walking‑type or riding mowers (less than 2000 lbs).
• Trim hedges and edge around walkways, flower beds, and wells using hedge trimmers, clippers, and edging tools.
• Prune shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth using shears and other hand tools.
• Apply fertilizer or insecticide to lawns, shrubs, and trees as directed.
• Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs as part of seasonal or routine landscaping.
• Water lawns and shrubs during dry periods using hoses or sprinkler systems.
• Pick up and dispose of leaves, paper, or other litter to maintain clean outdoor areas.
• Clean comfort stations, office areas, workshop spaces, and parking lots by sweeping, washing, mopping, and polishing as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll need:

Education:

• Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
• Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered

Experience

• Required: 1+ years of prior Shift Manager or supervisory experience

Working Conditions:

• Occasional exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, noise, dust, dirt, and chemicals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Fulfill the physical requirements associated with this role. This includes stooping, standing, walking, and climbing stairs. Must be able to lift/carry heavy loads of 50 lbs. or more.
• In‑depth understanding of a range of processes, procedures, systems, and concepts within own function and basic knowledge of related job functions required.
• Ability to communicate.
• Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
• Ability to efficiently complete assigned tasks within designated timeframes.
• Reliable and responsible, can work independently or as part of a team.
