The Commercial Accountant plays a key role in ensuring accurate, timely, and consistent financial management across our commercial, multifamily, and industrial construction projects. This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and leadership to maintain job-cost integrity, support monthly close processes, and uphold strong financial controls.

Key Responsibilities
Project & Job-Cost Accounting
- Maintain accurate job-cost data for all commercial, multifamily, and industrial projects.
- Review weekly cost transactions to ensure proper coding, compliance, and alignment with budgets.
- Validate committed costs, open POs, subcontract agreements, and change orders.
- Partner with Project Managers to resolve discrepancies and maintain cost‑to‑complete accuracy.
WIP, Revenue Recognition & Billing
- Prepare monthly Work-In-Progress (WIP) schedules and over/under billing analyses.
- Ensure accuracy in percentage-of-completion revenue and gross margin reporting.
- Support monthly billing cycles, including AIA pay applications, progress billings, and retainage management.
Operational Support & Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted financial partner to Project Managers and field leaders.
- Attend project reviews and provide job-level reporting and insights.
- Train and support operations teams on cost coding, billing processes, and documentation standards.
Month-End & Year-End Close
- Lead job-cost, WIP, and billing components of the month-end close.
- Reconcile AR, retainage, cost accruals, and unbilled revenue.
- Support audit needs and maintain proper documentation and SOPs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 4+ years of construction accounting experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of WIP, percentage-of-completion revenue, AIA billing, and retainage.
- Proficiency with construction accounting systems (CMiC preferred).
- Strong Excel skills and ability to present financial information to leaders.
