Job summary

Owens-Brockway Glass Container, Inc. in Windsor, CO, seeks a Combustion Engineer to optimize industrial combustion and glass furnace operations for efficient fuel use, better melting/heating performance, environmental compliance, and extended furnace life.

A Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 2 years in a glass container facility is required. You will monitor air and flame conditions, analyze data, and support safety and maintenance across manufacturing ops.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or foreign equivalent) plus two years of experience in a glass container manufacturing facility as an Industrial Engineer or related occupation.
• Experience with industrial combustion systems, including fuel/air balance, flame control, and heat transfer principles.
• Experience with preparing furnace operation reports, reviewing data, identifying issues and taking corrective actions; familiarity with preventative maintenance and safety practices for furnace/combustion equipment.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and analyze furnace conditions, including air/flame characteristics and temperature gradients, to drive improvements.

Owens-Brockway Glass Container, Inc. is seeking a Combustion Engineer at our manufacturing plant in Windsor, CO to optimize industrial combustion and glass furnace operations to ensure efficient fuel utilization, optimal melting and heating performance, environmental compliance, and extended furnace life.

Monitor and analyze factors such as location of air within tank, location of air within tack dampers, type of furnace flame, wind in refiner areas, temperature gradients, regenerators pressures, amount of dry batch in checkers, checker erosion, amount of waste gas, and slag formation. Support continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, energy conservation, and safety across manufacturing operations.

• Must have Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field, plus two (2) years of experience in a glass container manufacturing facility as an Industrial Engineer, Batch & Furnace Engineer, or related occupation.
  • The two (2) years of experience must include two (2) years of experience: 1) Working with industrial combustion systems, including fuel/air balance, flame control, and heat transfer principles; 2) Preparing reports related to furnace operations, including reviewing operational data, identifying performance issues and taking corrective actions; 3) Supporting preventative maintenance activities, including inspections and safety practices for furnace and combustion equipment, and evaluating furnace melting quality; and 4) Establis)hing, monitoring and adjusting furnace load limits to balance maximum pull and maximum furnace life.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent), we will accept a Bachelor’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) earned through any suitable combination of education, training, and/or experience, as determined by a professional evaluation service. All experience may be acquired concurrently.

Domestic travel required up to 5% for training purposes, to be reimbursed by the employer. In addition, standard benefits will be offered.

The expected salary range for this position is between $117,399.00 - $118,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
