Job summary

O-I's Toano plant is seeking a Combustion Engineer to support glass container production, partnering with Batch and Furnace Managers to drive quality and efficiency improvements.

The role requires strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, experience with energy management, and the ability to work independently on the plant floor. Travel for training and plant visits may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Ceramic, Chemical, Materials Science or related Engineering field preferred.
• 3–5 years of experience in manufacturing.
• Furnace operations/design experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe and efficient operation of glass melting furnaces.
• Optimize energy consumption and burner setup.
• Maintain furnace conditions within parameters via daily inspections.
• Review furnace data daily and adjust as needed.
• Assist in meeting production targets.
• Support continuous improvement and waste elimination.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing process problems.

Job Description

TheCombustion Engineer works in partnership with the Batch and Furnace Manager, and the Production and Quality Managers, to produce glass containers at continuously improving levels of quality and efficiency.

TheCombustion Engineer will:

• Ensure safe and efficient operating conditions of glass melting furnaces
• Ensure optimal energy consumption and proper burner set-up (flame geometry, length, overall profile)
• Ensure furnace conditions are within prescribed parameters through daily inspections
• Review furnace data on a daily basis and make adjustments as needed
• Assist in managing production targets
• Support continuous improvement and elimination of waste through ongoing analysis and identification of inefficiencies
• Assist with troubleshooting problems within the manufacturing process

TheCombustion Engineer should have:

• Strong analytical skills and data analysis
• Experience with environmental regulations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Experience with SAP highly desired

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Ceramic, Chemical, Materials Science or related Engineering field preferred
• 3-5 years of experience in manufacturing
• Furnace operations and/or furnace design experience is highly desired
• Able to perform hands-on physical work, on the plant floor
• Able to lead and work independently in relief of the Batch and Furnace Manager
• Able to travel for training, plants visits and networking
• Must be available for continuous operations

Additional Information

What we offer at O-I:

Salary Range: The expected salary range for this position is between$75,000 - 90,000 and includes a possible12% quarterly incentive bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based upon candidate experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
