Job summary

Highline Public Schools seeks a Special Education Vision Teacher and Orientation Mobility Specialist for the 2026-2027 school year. The positions total 1.0 FTE (0.5 FTE Vision, 0.5 FTE Orientation & Mobility) and require WA teaching certification in Special Education.

• ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Criminal background clearance, valid Washington State driver's license and proof of insurance, post-hire, pre-employment physical assessment, training or experience in serving students with mild to severe disabilities, First Aid and CPR Certification and maintain certification and all certificates, licenses, endorsements, permits, and vaccines as required by state and local authorities

• Provide specialized instruction for vision-impaired students within Special Education and orientation/mobility services.
• Collaborate with IEP teams, families, and school staff to implement individualized plans.

The Highline Public Schools Special/Inclusive Education Department is seeking a Special Education Vision Teacher / Orientation Mobility Specialist to join our team of educators for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year!

TEACHER SPECIAL EDUCATION SUMMARY: A Special Education teacher works with students found eligible for special education services through the Highline Public School's Special education process of identification and evaluation. Eligible students access learning in their Least Restrictive Environment determined by their IEP (Individualized Education Plan) team. Instruction is provided by certificated teachers with Special Education degrees or endorsements.

ORIENTATION/MOBILITY SPECIALIST SUMMARY: The position of Orientation and Mobility Specialist is responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting orientation and mobility programs for visually impaired students ages 3 through 21. Direct service as well as consultation is provided to students, schools, staff and parents. The specialist works with other staff to integrate students into the regular classroom. The specialist travels to the student\'s assigned schools and/or homes to provide direction and/or consultative special education services relating to the vision loss.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
