Job summary

Matrix Service Company is seeking a skilled welder for industrial construction projects in the United States. The role involves welding pipe of various kinds and alloys using ARC, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, GAS, MIG, TIG, and related processes, with emphasis on high- and low-pressure pipe qualifications and 100% NDE testing requirements.

The candidate should have 5+ years of refinery maintenance/turnaround/construction experience, hold current SMAW, GTAW and GMAW or FCAW certifications, and pass safety

Qualifications

• Minimum of five (5) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience.
• Must possess current certification in SMAW, GTAW and GMAW or FCAW
• Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the required drug testing program
• Must pass background check

• Selects equipment and plan layout and assembly of welding
• Weld pipe of all kinds, sizes and alloys by processes such as ARC, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, GAS, MIG, TIG, etc.
• Weld high- and low-pressure pipe per specifications with NDE testing including visual, hydro and 100% x-ray
• Fit up pipe and grinding as required
• Weld on structural steel, handrails, brackets, non-piping components
• Identify potential safety hazards and implement corrective actions
• Performs all other job-related duties as requested by supervision

Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION

Perform welding functions per jobsite specifications, covering various welding procedures, brazing, and cutting on all types of pipe in a industrial construction environment.

TYPICAL DUTIES

• Works well with peers, supervision and the QA/QC Department
• Selects equipment and plan layout and assembly of welding
• May weld pipe of all kinds, sizes and alloys by process of ARC, SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, GAS, MIG, TIG, etc.
• Weld high- and low-pressure pipe per specifications. All welds are subject to NDE testing including visual, hydro and 100% x-ray
• Fit up pipe in some instances, as well as perform grinding when required
• Weld on structural steel, handrails, brackets, non-piping components, etc.
• Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy
• Identifies potential safety hazards and promptly implements corrective actions to eliminate or minimize risk and maintain a safe work environment
• Performs all other job-related duties as requested by supervision

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of five (5) years or more in refinery maintenance/turnaround/or construction experience
• General knowledge of basic hand tools
• Must be able to pass Weld Test and have practical welding skill
• Must possess current certification in SMAW, GTAW and GMAW or FCAW
• Complete Matrix Service Safety training, Process Safety Management training and Client / Site specific training
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an active status within the required drug testing program
• Must pass background check

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting, sitting and lifting
• Will talk and hear to communicate
• Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull objects, materials, controls and tools
• May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50 lbs
• Will work at slight heights, climb ladders and stairways, and may occasionally work off of platforms using the appropriate fall protection requirements
• Must be able to work in weathering conditions including heat conditions while wearing appropriate PPE
• Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and leather work boots
