Job description

A Combination Pipe Welder will weld, fabricate, and assist pipe fitters in the installation of various types of industrial pipe into project piping systems.

Essential Functions/Duties

1. Select equipment, plan layouts, assemble, and weld, applying knowledge of geometry, metal properties, weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.
2. Layout, position, align, cut, assemble, and fit metal components in various positions, and identify all equipment required for the job and process.
3. Legibly document all weld information and create clear weld maps.
4. Secure parts with bolts, clamps, and tack-welds for welding.
5. Set up equipment and weld using arc, gas-shielded arc, submerged arc, or gas welding techniques.
6. Identify safety risks and adhere to safety requirements.
7. Perform Stick and TIG welding on pipes.
8. Possess at least 4 years of experience welding industrial-sized and graded pipes (Schedules 40, 80, and 160) and be proficient in 2G, 4G, and 6G positions.
9. Read blueprints, technical manuals, and engineering drawings to perform work efficiently.
10. Have thorough knowledge of various metals, their characteristics, and appropriate welding processes, understanding the effects of welding on materials.
11. Experience welding multiple pipe types, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and chrome.
12. Assist pipe fitters with pipe installation, preparation, and fabrication when not welding.
13. Have reliable transportation.
14. Work at heights as required.
15. Meet all physical requirements.
16. Possess all necessary tools at start date.

Working Conditions/Physical Effort

Work environments include offices, shops, traffic areas, warehouses, and undeveloped sites, with exposure to dirt, dust, grease, oil, vibrations, and weather. Ability to access all areas safely, lift up to fifty pounds, and perform strenuous physical tasks is required. Must operate equipment safely, stand for long periods, bend, work in confined spaces, on ladders, in lifts, boats, and awkward positions.
