Job summary

City of North Las Vegas is seeking a Combination Inspector to inspect commercial building construction, renovations in progress, and completed work to verify conformity with approved plans, codes and regulations.

You will evaluate structure, electrical, mechanical and plumbing work, document findings, recommend corrective actions, and support safe, compliant building practices. A valid Nevada driver’s license and ICC certifications are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum three years as an Inspector in building, electrical, mechanical or plumbing disciplines.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain Nevada license within required timeframe.
• ICC certification in all four inspection areas or ICC Combination Inspector eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Inspect commercial building construction, renovation in progress and upon completion for code compliance.
• Investigate and analyze problems; recommend solutions for complex systems and construction.
• Ensure inspections cover structure, electrical, mechanical and plumbing areas; uphold safety and regulatory standards.

THE ROLE

Inspects commercial building construction, renovation in progress and upon completion to verify continuous compliance with approved plans, specifications, applicable codes, ordinances and regulations. Performs inspections, investigates and analyzes problems and recommends solutions for more complex systems and construction; resolves issues relating to code compliance.

Employees perform duties which include inspections of commercial buildings in all four areas of construction: structure, electrical, mechanical and plumbing. Employees assume a high level of responsibility and are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to their assigned area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Three years of experience as a Building, Electrical, Mechanical or Plumbing Inspector.

Licenses and Certifications:

• Possession of International Code Council (ICC) certification in all four inspection areas (building, electrical, mechanical and plumbing) or ICC Combination Inspector from Legacy Codes.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
