Job summary

The City of McKinney is seeking a Building Inspector to ensure compliance with ICC Building Codes and City ordinances. The role involves inspecting new and existing buildings, documenting findings, and communicating clearly with contractors and residents.

Under supervision, you will verify code compliance, manage inspection schedules, and help maintain a safe, high‑performing work environment aligned with the city’s RISe values.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of related construction field experience with training.
• ICC Residential or Commercial Building Inspector certification preferred or to be obtained within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Inspect new and existing residential, commercial, and other buildings for life-safety compliance.
• Verify conformance with International Codes, construction documents and city ordinances.
• Document inspection results accurately in the city inspection database.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, homeowners, and the public about inspection requirements.
• Lead or assist in department training and meet safety and attendance policies.
