Job description

Selection Rights : This position shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of the OCSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. BWC bargaining unit members have selection rights before non-bargaining unit members. All other applications will only be considered if an internal bargaining unit applicant is not selected for this position.

Salary Information : Hourly wage is expected to be paid at step 1 of the pay range associated with the position for candidates who are new employees of the state. Current employees will be placed in the appropriate step based on applicable union contracts and Ohio Revised Code. Movement to the next pay step (approximately 4%) occurs after six months with acceptable performance, with annual step increases thereafter.

Transportation : Position may require travel; therefore, persons occupying this position must be able to provide their own transportation and/or legally operate a state-owned vehicle.

Educational Transcripts : To be considered during screening, applicants must attach an unofficial transcript detailing completed coursework.

All applicants must submit an Ohio Civil Service Application via the online Ohio Hiring Management System. Paper applications are not accepted.

Final applicants will be required to sign a background check authorization form and undergo a criminal background check prior to employment.

Qualifications include completing an associate core program in criminology, criminal justice, or law enforcement, with 18 months of experience in conducting criminal investigations, or related forensic accounting/auditing qualifications, or an equivalent of the minimum class qualifications for employment. Additional background checks and compliance with CJIS and LEADS policies are required for certain positions.

Ability to : define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions; gather and classify information; prepare reports; conduct interviews; assess situations and make decisions; handle sensitive inquiries; recognize threats; work independently.

What You'll Be Doing :

  • Conduct forensic audits supporting criminal investigations, including reviewing financial, banking, tax, employment, and payroll records.
  • Conduct and document interviews with subjects, witnesses, and interested parties, and communicate with investigative and legal staff.
  • Assist in investigative fieldwork and record gathering.
  • Provide testimony in criminal and administrative proceedings.
  • Utilize self-defense skills and techniques to respond to aggressive behavior.
