Job summary

Idaho Falls High School is seeking a Color Guard Coach (Athletic Band) Assistant to lead and develop a competitive color guard program for qualified students. The role includes supervising performances, equipment upkeep, and ensuring safe, disciplined conduct under district policies.

The position reports to the Band Director and Building Administrator and requires collaboration with parents and staff. Employment is under the High School Athletic Band Assistant stipend; starting stipend varies

Qualifications

• Demonstrates skill and experience in color guard, dance, drill, or other comparable group activities.
• Ability to work with staff, students, and the public.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Plans and implements a well-organized color guard program for all qualified students.
• Supervises students to ensure safe and acceptable performances.
• Oversees color guard activities away from home to ensure proper conduct.
• Assumes responsibility for all equipment needs and maintenance.
• Develops, with team input, current team rules and by-laws.
• Assists with meetings with parents and team members on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Responsible for welfare and safety of all team members.
• Maintains direct communication with band director, parents, and students.
• Tends to injuries and uses preventative measures to avoid injuries.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO: Band Director and Building Administrator

JOB GOALS:

• To support the delivery of School District 91's curriculum and contribute to maximizing student achievement.
• To help each participating student achieve a high level of skill and an increased level of self-esteem.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plans and implements a well-organized and competitive color guard program for all qualified students.
• Supervises and provides guidance for the students involved in color guard to ensure they are performing in a safe and acceptable manner.
• Supervises students while away from home for color guard activities to assure proper and prudent conduct.
• Assumes responsibility for all equipment needs and maintenance.
• Develops, with team input, current team rules and by-laws.
• Assists with meetings with parents and team members on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Is responsible for the welfare and safety of all team members.
• Maintains a direct line of communication with band director, parents, and students.
• Tends to injuries and uses preventative measures to avoid injuries.
• Carries out policies, procedures and discipline as stated in the District Policy Manual as applicable to the color guard.
• Maintains high standards of ethical conduct and confidentiality.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Employed annually under the High School Athletic Band Assistant stipend as per the Stipend Schedule as listed in the Collective Bargaining Agreement.The beginning full stipend amount will depend on the FTE amount assigned.

EVALUATION:

• Performance of this position will be evaluated annually by the Building Administrator as part of the coachesevaluation process.
