Overview

County of Ventura is offering a Student Worker III position across various departments. The position is open to college students willing to assist regular employees with routine tasks, including clerical work, manual labor, and other assignments.

Typical Responsibilities

A Student Worker assists in the following activities, among others:

• Performs data entry.
• Shelves books.
• Files materials and pulls material from established files.
• Opens and sorts mail.
• Delivers mail and supplies.
• Proofreads written material.
• Assists with research.
• Operates office equipment and machines.
• Assists with collection and analysis of statistical data.
• Assists with conducting special studies in a variety of occupational fields.
• Assists with the preparation and the presentation of oral and/or written reports.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Student Worker III – No experience is required.

Students must provide proof of enrollment in at least nine (9) units of academic/technical college/university courses at the undergraduate level or six (6) units at the graduate level.

Some departments may require proof of enrollment in a minimum of twelve (12) units at the undergraduate level.

Students may work during the summer if they have graduated from high school or completed at least nine (9) units in the previous spring session, are enrolled for at least nine (9) units for the next fall session, or are enrolled in at least three (3) units of summer courses.

A thorough pre‑employment, post‑offer background investigation is required, which may include inquiry into past employment, education, criminal background information, and driving record.

Benefits

Student Worker III positions are represented by the Service Employees' International Union (SEIU). Incumbents are employed as extra‑help and are consequently not eligible for benefits. The position is limited to a maximum of 3,120 total hours over three (3) years, with no more than 1,040 hours per year.
