Job summary

Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, AZ invites qualified undergraduate or graduate students to join as an Instructional Assistant on the traditional ground campus within the College of Natural Sciences.

You will support instructors, prepare materials, assist in class, proctor exams, hold study groups, and provide tutoring while upholding the University’s Doctrinal Statement and Mission. Must be a current GCU student and be located in Arizona for in-person duties on the Main Campus.

Qualifications

• Must be a current GCU student; no degree required.
• Cannot be a current GCU or GCE employee/student worker or hired for other hourly GCU positions.
• Must be available to assist on Main Campus (in-person) in Arizona.
• Must have completed sufficient coursework with a B or higher in required courses.
• Maintain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor student or 3.0 GPA as a Master student.
• Maintain good SAP standing with the University.

Responsibilities

• Maintain regular communication with the assigned instructor.
• Attend and be ready to assist in every class.
• May help with course material prep, grading and lecturing.
• Hold office hours (3–4 hours; up to 10 hours per week) to aid students.
• Assist in class activities, proctor exams, and observe student performance.

Job Overview

Make a Difference at Grand Canyon University. Shape the bright futures of Grand Canyon University students as an Instructional Assistant for the traditional ground campus in the College of Natural Sciences. Through hands‑on, inquiry‑based learning, the college provides an outlet for innovation and cross‑disciplinary exposure. It also features pre‑professional degrees in biology and microbiology alongside our degrees in chemistry, physics, environmental science, forensic science, and exercise science.

Responsibilities

• Keep in communication with your assigned instructor on a regular basis.
• Stay updated and prepared for the classroom agenda and material.
• Attend and be ready to assist your instructor in every class.
• May help with course material prep, grading and lecturing.
• Hold office hours (minimum 3‑4 hours; this counts toward the max of 10 hours per week) to answer student questions and tutor them.
• Equip students with the required skill set, facilitate classroom discussions, assess student performance, and prepare students to be successful leaders in their chosen profession.
• Assists instruction with in‑class activities, including proctoring examinations.
• Observe students’ performance and record relevant data to aid the instructor in assessing progress.
• Coordinate study groups outside of class to tutor students on class material.
• May facilitate additional ad‑hoc lectures as a refresher to classroom formal lecture.
• Assist with grading assignments.
• Proctor occasional makeup examinations/assignments.
• Provide a positive example to students by supporting the University’s Doctrinal Statement, Ethical Position Statement, and Mission of Grand Canyon University.

Qualifications

• You are required to be a current GCU student; no completed degree is required.

• Must be available to assist on Main Campus (in‑person) and must be in Arizona.
• Must have completed sufficient coursework and received a grade of B or higher in the required courses.
• Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.
• Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
• May be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Compensation and Duration

Pay Rate: Minimum Wage
