Job summary

Tucson Unified School District seeks a College Mentor to support students using AVID and culturally relevant practices through tutoring and study groups. You will help prepare instructional materials and provide academic mentoring.

Applicants must be enrolled in college, with 30+ credits, a 2.5 GPA, and bilingual English/Spanish communication. Location: Mexican American Student Services—various sites; 4 hours per day.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in college with a minimum of 30 credit hours.
• Minimum 2.5 GPA; transcripts required.
• 18 years or older.
• Verbal & written communication skills in English and Spanish.

• Assist students in achieving academic goals using AVID and culturally relevant practices through tutoring or tutoring in study groups.
• Assist in the preparation of instructional materials.
• Provide academic mentoring and perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

SUMMARY

Under supervision, theCollege Mentorwill assist students in achieving academic goals utilizing AVID and Culturally Relevant Practices strategies through individual tutoring and/or tutoring in study groups, assist in the preparation of instructional materials, academic mentoring, and perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Currently Enrolled College Student, with a minimum of 30 Credit hours
• Minimum 2.5 GPA (Copy of transcripts must be furnished prior to employment)
• Verbal & written communication skills in English and Spanish
• Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend written/graphic and oral instructions

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO START DATE

• FBI fingerprint background check.
• Proof of immunity to rubeola (measles) and rubella (German measles), or proof of MMR immunization.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

• Prior tutoring and/or mentoring experience

Positions less than 30 hours per week are not eligible for district benefits.
