Capital District Physicians Health Plan Inc seeks a Healthcare Analytics Intern for a 10‑week paid summer program in Buffalo. You will extract and analyze healthcare data, develop dashboards, and support data-driven decision making under mentorship.

The internship provides development workshops, exposure to leadership, and opportunities to work on meaningful healthcare projects across analytics, IT, and business tracks. Housing is not provided.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a full‑time undergraduate or graduate degree program.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.

Summary

The Summer College Internship Program is a 10-week paid internship experience that provides undergraduate and graduate students with the opportunity to attend development workshops, network, and be part of our company. Our college interns work on meaningful projects, are mentored under their respective managers, and continue to develop throughout the entire summer. Through the internship program, our interns can attend development workshops that are focused on key business concepts. Interns may work within the skills-based tracks of Business Administration, Information Technology, Actuarial, Human Resources, Analytics & Data, Communications, Finance, Marketing & Sales, Project Management, Clinical Studies, Customer Experience, Digital Operations, and other non-technical and/or technical based degree programs.

• This is a paid 10-week summer internship from the first Monday in June to the second Friday in August (up to 40 hours per week).
• Interns may reside in either a technical or non-technical area.
• Development workshops are provided to help with the transition from school to the corporate environment.
• Housing is not provided as part of our program.

Essential Accountabilities

• Specific duties will vary by assignment; specific divisional callouts are listed below.
• The Healthcare Analytics Intern will be embedded within the Healthcare Analytics team and will support projects aligned with our organization's goals of improving healthcare affordability, quality, utilization management, and data-driven decision-making. The internship is designed to provide meaningful, hands‑on experience with healthcare data while delivering actionable insights that support business and clinical stakeholders.
• Extract, validate, and analyze healthcare claims, enrollment, provider, and quality data.
• Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and ad hoc analyses used by leadership and operational teams.
• Perform data quality reviews to identify anomalies, trends, and opportunities for process improvement.
• Document business requirements, data definitions, and analytical methodologies.
• Assist with data visualization and storytelling by translating complex findings into clear and actionable summaries.
• Learn healthcare analytics concepts including utilization, cost and trend analysis, provider performance, quality measures, and population health metrics.
• Works with a mentor and supports key strategic projects.
• Completes work assignments based on business needs, departmental priorities, and individual qualifications.
• Performs a mix of technical and/or non-technical tasks that will cover a broad range of business‑related projects.
• Creates and delivers presentations at completion of internship.

Minimum Qualifications

• Desired Majors/Degree Programs Include: Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Public Health, Business & Management (i.e. Finance, Actuarial, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Supply Chain Management, etc.); Computing Sciences & Information Technology (i.e. Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT Networking, Cybersecurity, etc.); Social Sciences (i.e. Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Law/Pre-Law, etc.); Health Professions & Life Sciences (i.e. Nursing, Public Health, Biology, Pharmacy, etc.) or similar program(s)
• Preferred (but not required) experience with: Candidates who are curious, analytical, and interested in using data to solve real‑world healthcare business problems. Experience with data analysis using SQL, SAS, or similar analytical tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, data manipulation, and basic reporting. Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms. Understanding of database concepts and data structures.
• High School diploma along with proof of continuous college enrollment (enrolled in a full‑time undergraduate or graduate degree program).
• Must be in good academic standing.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to interact with technical and non‑technical audiences and interface with staff at all levels of the company.
• Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment while maintaining strong attention to detail changing environment and deliver high‑quality work product.
• Ability to work well in a team establishing good working relationships with peers.
• Demonstrates strong organizational, analytical, problem‑solving and prioritization skills.
• Proactive approach to work, displaying creativity and flexibility in completing assigned tasks.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work while sitting and/or standing at a workstation viewing a computer and using a keyboard, mouse and/or phone for three (3) or more hours at a time.
• Ability to travel across the Health Plan service region for meetings and/or training courses as needed.
