Job summary

Job Description

Farm to School programs in Ohio offer students fresh, locally grown or raised foods and teach them about agriculture and nutrition. The Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (the Department) manages several Farm to School initiatives, including: Ohio Proud on the Menu, a local foods marketing campaign; Grow Ohio Grant, a Farm to School subgrant program; professional development led by a chef; and school garden activities that help increase students’ access to school-grown foods in cafeteria meals and exposure to agricultural careers.

Reporting to the Office of Nutrition Education Employee Consultant 3 at the Department, the Farm to School college intern will advance Farm to School initiatives across the state.

Intern Duties
  • Ohio Proud on the Menu Campaign
    • Finalize campaign materials, including presentations and toolkits.
    • Develop additional promotional materials as needed.
    • Assist in the inventory management and distribution of physical campaign assets.
  • Grow Ohio Grant
    • Review grantees’ final reports and present findings in written and visual formats.
  • Farm to School Chef
    • Collaborate with the Department’s Farm to School Chef on the development and delivery of training and events.
  • School Gardens
    • Creates content for educational materials and communications related to school gardens.
  • Other duties include
    • Draft quarterly Farm to School Newsletter and bi-weekly written communications.
    • Update existing educational resources to align with new nutrition guidelines.
    • Assist in the development and delivery of Farm to School trainings.

Qualifications

Preferred experience or coursework in Nutrition, Agriculture, Communications,
and/or Marketing.
