Job summary

Latin American Youth Center in Washington, DC is seeking a College and Career Coordinator to run an out-of-school-time readiness program for high school students. You will coordinate activities at Coolidge High School and lead a summer program in collaboration with DC SYEP.

The role blends direct student advising with program coordination, data management, and partnership development, requiring a Bachelor’s degree and at least 1 year in youth programs.

Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the college and career readiness program at Coolidge HS and community, serving up to five cohorts and 50-60 youth annually.
  • Lead student recruitment and enrollment in partnership with school staff and DC SYEP.
  • Provide onsite guidance and feedback to AmeriCorps members.
  • Deliver College and Career readiness workshops using Passport Curriculum and develop new workshops.
  • Provide individualized college and career advising including FAFSA, applications, and career exploration.
  • Coordinate tutoring and serve as point-of-contact for tutors from partner colleges.
  • Support students in developing service projects and DCPS community service hours.
  • Build relationships with schools, colleges, employers and partners to expand opportunities.
  • Manage office hours for college application support and data entry on attendance and milestones.

LAYC is seeking a College and Career Coordinator to implement and support an out-of-school-time college and career readiness program that provides high school students with the skills, guidance, and experience needed to successfully graduate high school and achieve their post-secondary goals. The College and Career Coordinator will coordinate programming at Coolidge High School during the school year and lead a summer college and career readiness program in partnership with the DC Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP). The position combines direct student engagement and advising with program coordination, partnership development, data management, and administrative responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coordinate and oversee the college and career readiness out-of-school-time program at Coolidge High School and in the community during the school year and summer, serving up to five cohorts and approximately 50-60 youth annually.
  • Lead student recruitment and enrollment during the school year and summer in partnership with school staff, the Program Director, AmeriCorps members, and DC SYEP.
  • Provide onsite guidance, mentorship, and support to AmeriCorps members assigned to the program, including regular check-ins and feedback.
  • Deliver engaging college and career readiness workshops using LAYC’s Passport Curriculum, while developing additional workshops and activities based on student feedback and identified needs.
  • Provide individualized college and career advising, including support with postsecondary planning, FAFSA completion, college applications, personal statements/essays, grant applications, and career exploration.
  • Coordinate tutoring support for program participants, including being point-of-contact for tutors from partner colleges and universities.
  • Support students in developing community service projects that allow students to take leadership roles while working toward DCPS-required community service hours.
  • Coordinating activities to promote exposure to opportunities, including college visits and community events.
  • Work with students to develop Individualized Goal Plans and utilize tools throughout program to drive students toward success.
  • Refer students to Community Schools Coordinator to access wrap-around resources as needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with school staff, colleges and universities, community organizations, employers, and other partners to expand opportunities for program participants.
  • Manage office hours to provide support to students with the college application process.
  • Data responsibilities include quantitative data through weekly entry of attendance, tracking student milestones, and surveys, and qualitative data through highlights of student stories, student interviews, and overall program observations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Education.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • Minimum of 1-year experience in youth work, school-based programming, and/or college and career readiness programs
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of community and local resources.
  • Interpersonal skills showing the ability to manage community partnerships, connections with local and out-of-state colleges, and maintain strong relationships with school staff. Excellent verbal, written, and facilitation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 platform.
  • Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings for school events.
  • Bilingual or fluent/proficient: English and Spanish required
  • Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
  • Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
  • Ability to work well and communicate with culturally diverse populations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is largely a sedentary position that requires the ability to speak, hear, see, and lift small objects up to 10 lbs. May require the ability to travel locally and/or regionally.
