Job summary

The District of Columbia Public Library, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, seeks a Library Technician in the Collections Division to process new materials, prepare items for public use, and assist in collection maintenance.

The role supports shelving, labeling, and security applications to ensure shelf-ready items for patrons and staff. Responsibilities include unpacking shipments, organizing materials by format/language, applying labels, and maintaining smooth daily

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of direct, in-person customer service experience.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to provide technology and operational support for library systems and equipment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Unpacks and processes new materials and prepares items for circulation.
• Applies stamps, labels, security devices, barcodes and protective covers.
• Prints call numbers and shelves materials.
• Supports cataloging workflows and daily branch operations.
