Job summary

CPM Federal Credit Union is seeking a Collections Officer in a hybrid role to support member accounts from both in-office and remote locations. You will contact members, assess delinquent accounts, and help set up viable repayment plans while ensuring adherence to applicable laws.

The starting pay is $22.50 per hour, with on-site training for the first 90 days at one of our South Carolina locations. Availability Monday–Thursday 8 am–5 pm and Friday 8 am–6 pm is required to support member needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience in collections within a financial institution is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of collection procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for professional relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize your collections experience to contact members, find suitable resolutions for delinquent accounts, and implement necessary actions.
  • Discuss financial arrangements, inform members of potential legal actions, and provide financial counseling for viable payment plans.
  • Maintain legal compliance while employing collection techniques like due date extensions, consolidations, and repossessions.
  • Utilize skip tracing to locate individuals associated with delinquent accounts.
  • Recommend accounts for repossession and foreclosure, ensuring timely collateral recovery.
  • Prepare necessary documentation for small claims court complaints and post judgment actions.
  • Analyze delinquency reports and maintain accurate collection records.
  • Collaborate with team members and other departments for effective collections strategies.

Collections Officer (Hybrid)

In this exciting role, you'll have the opportunity to utilize your expertise to contact members, employ empathy, and provide assistance in resolving outstanding debts during challenging financial times. The minimum starting pay for this role is $22.50 per hour. At CPM Federal Credit Union, we consider experience, skills, and internal equity when determining final compensation.

Candidates must be available Monday - Thursday 8 am - 5 pm, and Fridays 8 am - 6 pm.

This is a hybrid position (in-office and/or work from home). On-site work will take place at one of our core locations in the following regions: Beaufort, Charleston, Orangeburg, and the Upstate of South Carolina.

Please note: The first 90 days of training will be on-site at one of these locations.

What You'll Bring:
  • Previous collections experience in a financial institution is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of collection procedures, laws, and regulations.
  • Understanding of Credit Union loan products, policies, and default clauses.
  • Familiarity with deposits, account ownership, and insurance.
  • Basic understanding of U.S. Bankruptcy Code and Small Claims Court system.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for professional relationships.
  • Teamwork and collaboration abilities.
  • Detail-oriented approach for accurate documentation and record-keeping.
  • Confidentiality and integrity in handling sensitive information.
  • Must be flexible to work evenings and weekends as per department needs. High school diploma or equivalent
