Pay Range

This range is provided by Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Base pay range: $50,902.00/yr - $55,585.00/yr

Overview

Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks and operates tools, equipment, and vehicles used in sewer maintenance, repair, and construction.

Essential Functions
  • Clean sewer pipes, inlets, MSD assets, and creeks. Investigate customer complaints and take corrective action.
  • Repair, rebuild, and/or replace sewer pipes, inlets, manholes, and catch basins.
  • Locate and mark MSD assets as needed.
  • Interface with computerized maintenance management and mapping systems; enter data and update work orders (Maximo).
  • Operate various vehicles, equipment, and hand tools.
  • Enter structures to remove debris, investigate assets, repair deficiencies, and install equipment.
  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment to the job site.
  • Place and remove shoring from excavations.
  • Assist bricklayers by mixing mortar and concrete, hod bricks.
  • Perform manual back-filling, restore pavements, repair fences, landscaping, and sod.
  • Meet training program requirements as set by the Collection Systems Apprenticeship agreement.

Successful completion of the training program includes performing duties per District journeyman standards, identifying problem severity, performing CDL pre-trip inspections, and operating equipment.

Additional Responsibilities

Operate various motor vehicles, pumps, demolition saws, and other power equipment. Perform related work as delegated.

Physical Demands
  • Constantly: move, traverse, exert force, push, pull, ascend/descend, balance, position self, reach, handle, grasp, feel, communicate, repetitive motions, coordination.
  • Rarely: seated.
  • Transport/lift/carry: 50 pounds constantly.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Ability to pass a skills/aptitude test for the three-year MSD Collection Systems Apprenticeship.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's Permit at hire, including General Knowledge, Combination, Air Brake, and Tanker endorsements.
  • Within 8 months, obtain and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with required endorsements.
  • Availability for overtime.
Desirable Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor outdoors in all weather.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, traffic laws, and vehicle operation regulations.
  • Ability to follow instructions, use hand tools, operate mechanical equipment, and prepare records.
  • Ability to read and pass exams on training materials.
Special Requirements

Valid driver's license required. This position is safety sensitive; candidates must pass drug tests as per MSD policies. Current employees must have a 'Meets Expectations' or 'Proficient' performance rating.
