Pay Range

This range is provided by Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Base pay range: $50,902.00/yr - $55,585.00/yr

Overview

Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks and operates tools, equipment, and vehicles used in sewer maintenance, repair, and construction.

Essential Functions
  • Clean sewer pipes, inlets, MSD assets, and creeks. Investigate customer complaints and take corrective action.
  • Repair, rebuild, and replace sewer pipes, inlets, manholes, and catch basins.
  • Locate and mark MSD assets as needed.
  • Interface with computerized maintenance management and mapping systems; enter data and update work orders (Maximo).
  • Operate various vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  • Enter structures to remove debris, investigate assets, repair deficiencies, and install equipment.
  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment to the job site.
  • Assist with shoring, masonry, back-filling, and restoring damaged pavement.
  • Repair or replace fences, landscaping, and other site features.
  • Meet training program requirements as set by the Collection Systems Apprenticeship agreement.

Successful completion of the program includes performing training duties per District standards, identifying problem severity, performing CDL inspections, and operating equipment.

Additional Responsibilities

Operate various motor vehicles and power equipment. Perform related work as delegated.

Physical Demands

Includes constant movement, lifting (up to 50 pounds), pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, and other physical activities.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Ability to pass a skills/aptitude test for the three-year MSD Collection Systems Apprenticeship.
  • Class A Commercial Driver's Permit required at hire; must obtain a valid Class A CDL within 8 months.
  • Availability for overtime.
Desirable Skills
  • Ability to perform manual labor outdoors in all weather.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices, traffic laws, and vehicle operation.
  • Ability to follow instructions, use hand tools, operate mechanical equipment, and prepare simple reports.
  • Ability to pass training exams.
Special Requirements

Must possess a valid driver's license. This position is safety-sensitive and subject to drug testing regulations.
