Job summary

The Mannes School of Music at The New School seeks a Staff Pianist, Senior Student Assistant Specialist to support instruction and performances on campus. This role reports to the Performance and Ensemble Manager and is ideal for students pursuing a career as a pianist.

Open to student applicants with or without Federal Work Study awards; expected to accompany ensembles and collaborate closely with faculty and peers in a professional, in-person setting.

Qualifications

• Current student in the Mannes BM, MM, or PDPL degree programs.
• Prior coursework in collaborative skills, and/or equivalent experience.
• Extensive knowledge of collaborative piano performance practice with art songs, lieder, sonatas, concerti, and/or other vocal and instrumental repertoire.

Responsibilities

• Accompany instrumental and/or vocal students in private lessons, masterclasses, juries, classes, and performances.
• Learn assigned music prior to collaborating with fellow students (e.g., correct tempi, dynamics).
• Exhibit professionalism in all interactions with students, faculty, staff, and audience members.
• Respond to inquiries from students, faculty, and staff in a timely manner regarding private lessons, masterclasses, and performances.
• Adhere to departmental guidelines regarding reporting hours, payroll deadlines, and other items.
