BAC welding role: A Welder II on the Coil assembly line performs intermediate to advanced welds, interpreting drawings and welding symbols to meet engineering specs. You will train junior mechanics, uphold safety, and maintain quality while flexing to multiple coil types.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Proficiency in MIG and oxy-acetylene welding techniques.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ASME B-31.5 welding code and standards.
  • Demonstrated capacity to obtain 6G certification.
  • Familiar with cutting tools such as plasma cutters, grinders, sawzall.
  • Competent writing skills for process documentation and communication.

  • Safely operate overhead and JIB cranes.
  • Meet or exceed production goals for shift.
  • Help train junior operators and welders.
  • Follow ISO policies and standard work instructions.

Job description

A shop hourly welding position with the primary responsibilities to use equipment to perform intermediate to advanced welding processes to meet specified engineering requirements for the Coil assembly line. As an experienced welder, the Welder II has a high level of proficiency in welding and is competent to work independently in the majority of functions. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Owns personal and team safety. Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Utilize standard work to perform intermediate to advanced welding processes to meet specified engineering requirements.
  • Flex to TSU, Fin Coil, Stainless Steel Coils as needed.
  • Accurately complete paperwork or online data entry required by department.
  • Interpret traveler tickets and channel completed products to staging area for the next operation.
  • Perform daily equipment checks to ensure proper operation.
  • Responsible for the daily and weekly sign-off of the primary maintenance procedure checklist.
  • Safely operate overhead crane and JIB cranes to lift and move components.
  • Aggressively uphold and support quality and process standards.
  • Meet or exceed production goals for shift.
  • Help assist and train junior operators and welders.
  • Follow instructions and adhere to ISO policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and sustain 5’s in the department.
  • Committed to achieving departmental safety goals.
  • Continuously grow skills and expertise in order to flex to the maximum number of workstations
  • Fulfill the role of senior welder or operator in their absence.
  • Ensure individual activities embrace sustainability,reduce the impact on the environment, minimize waste, maximize recycling, minimize energy and water usage.
  • Support a culture of innovation through original thinking to improve processes, methods, systems or services; translates new ideas into business opportunities
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed and assigned.
NATURE & SCOPE

Reports to Team Leader, Shift Leader or senior operator / welder as assigned. Work is primarily related to home department, but may be flexed to other departments as order demand dictates. May be assigned the training and mentoring of junior welders and operators.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Good overall knowledge of the variety of BAC products.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess weld quality on a consistent basis.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, blueprints and welding symbols.
  • Ability to understand and react to job schedules.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MIG and oxy-acetylene welding techniques.
  • Intermediate knowledge of ASME B-31.5 welding code and standards.
  • Demonstrated capacity to obtain 6G certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to use cutting tools, such as plasma cutters, grinders, sawzall
  • Demonstrated competent writing skills including the ability to document a process in a logical and coherent manner. Ability to communicate to supervisors and co-workers with written memos or email that are professional, concise and clearly understood.
  • Competent in math including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractional computations, and fraction to decimal conversions.
  • Proficient in the use hand held measuring tools including tape measure
  • Demonstrated ability to operate overhead and JIB cranes; achieved through required certification.
  • Working command of the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills including the ability to communicate professionally with BAC customer and co-workers. The ability to share information verbally that is clearly understood and technically accurate
  • Understanding of elementary and intermediate LEAN principles including 5S, Kanban, one piece flow, and basic continuous improvement techniques
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt quickly to change.
  • Familiar with all appropriate procedures, policies, and standard work instructions for their area
  • Demonstrated competence in BAC quality procedures and processes to follow when a quality issue is identified
  • Computer skills include competence in locating relevant instructions and forms other databases used in the Coil Department.
  • Thorough knowledge of all hazards related to cranes, fixtures and related safety sensitive areas of the department.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety standards.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs. Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time. Additional activities include: walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting. Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes. Exposures include elevated noise levels associated with a manufacturing environment, fluctuations in temperature ambient conditions as well as intermittent exposure to the weather in and about the yard and dock areas. Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week. Some weekend overtime is to be expected. Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
