Job summary

Valmont Group in Valley, Nebraska seeks a Looper Operator to maintain a steady material flow from the uncoiler to the tube mill. You will use a 30-ton crane to lift heavy coils, weld ends with a mic miller 252 manual welder, and feed coils into the mill for continuous production.

Candidates must read and write legibly, perform basic math, and obtain forklift and overhead crane certification. Prior manufacturing experience and strong spatial awareness are required for safe, efficient operation.

Qualifications

• 1 to 3 years of relevant manufacturing or fabrication experience.
• Basic welding techniques and operation of welding equipment, including the mic miller 252 manual welder.
• Ability to read and write legibly for accurate records and communication.
• Proficiency with decimals and fractions, and converting between both.
• Ability to obtain forklift and overhead crane certification.
• Strong spatial awareness to safely operate heavy equipment.
• Basic mathematical skills to track material usage and production rates.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently while communicating with team members.
• Demonstrates a passion for quality, integrity, and exceptional results.

Responsibilities

• Weld coils using a mic miller 252 manual welder to maintain continuous material flow.
• Operate a 30-ton overhead crane to lift and position heavy coils for the mill.
• Connect steel coils by welding ends to feed into the mill smoothly.
• Adjust mill setup for different coil sizes and coordinate with material handlers.
• Monitor coil inventory and keep accurate daily records of usage and footage.
• Work independently with minimal supervision, following standard procedures.
• Communicate with operators and inspectors to resolve production issues.
• Maintain the forming sections of the mill and address mechanical issues as needed.
• Ensure safe crane operation and prevent costly coil damage.
• Perform general area maintenance and keep the workspace organized.
