Job summary

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute in Eugene, OR is seeking a Coding Specialist to perform medical record coding and assign diagnostic codes to patient charts and reports under direct supervision.

The role supports the US Oncology Compliance Program and requires CPC certification, a high school diploma, and at least one year of medical coding experience; familiarity with ICD-10 and CPT-4 is highly desirable.

Qualifications

  • Must have HS diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a course in medical terminology is required.
  • CPC certification is required.
  • Minimum one year of medical coding experience; three years preferred.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding systems highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Abstract relevant clinical and demographic information from the medical record to assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes in accordance with coding and reimbursement guidelines.
  • Identify principal and secondary diagnosis with minimal error based on national standards.
  • Code with an accuracy of 97% based on QA internal reviews.
  • Record all diagnostic procedures and assign appropriate procedure codes.
  • Request diagnosis from physicians when information is not recorded.
  • Determine and record the required medical information.
  • Update coding procedures and guidelines; coordinate with medical staff.

Overview

Willamette Valley Cancer Institute – Oregon’s largest private oncology practice and a member of the US Oncology network – is looking for a Coding Specialist to join the team. Under direct supervision, this individual will perform all medical record coding activities and Assign appropriate diagnostic codes to patient charts and reports.


This role will also support and adhere to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.


The general pay scale for this position at WVCI is $21 - $35. The actual hiring rate is dependent on many factors, including but not limited to: prior work experience, education, job/position responsibilities, location, work performance, etc.

Qualifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Completion of a course in medical terminology.

  • CPC certification required.

  • Minimum one year of coding medical experience required, three years experience medical coding preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical records coding procedures and knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT-4 Coding Systems highly desirable.
