Job Description

We’re looking for a Coding Quality Assurance Specialist III, someone who’s ready to grow with our company. In this position, you will assign and audit the accuracy of the ICD-10-CM and CPT codes for ambulatory, emergency center, observation, and day surgery records for billing, research, and regulatory purposes. You will ensure the accuracy of physicians' E/M and procedure coding based on documentation, complete auditing reports, and provide feedback to the education team and/or providers. Responsibilities may vary depending on work assignment.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRG, E/M, and CPT codes.
• Review and interpret physician documentation to assign diagnosis and procedure codes.
• Communicate with and provide feedback to the education team and/or providers.
• Review patient charges to determine necessary coding for account completion.
• Identify principal and secondary diagnoses and procedure codes from medical records.
• Use encoder or coding books to generate appropriate codes.
• Sequence diagnoses and procedures for billing.
• Query physicians for diagnoses not clearly provided.
• Utilize resources like Epic, MIQS, Cardio IMS, and coding references for code assignment.
• Assist other coders in resolving coding issues.
• Provide codes for research and quality reporting.
• Complete record abstracts as needed.
• Assist in correcting problem accounts.
• Review charts for completeness.
• Participate in education and maintain certification.
• Assist in auditing records.
• Maintain concurrent coding for inpatient records.

Skills & Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Certification (choose one): CCA, CCS, CCS-P, CIPC, COC, CPC, CRC, RHIA, RHIT from recognized bodies.
• At least 4 years of coding experience, preferably with an encoder and electronic medical records.

Previous inpatient coding experience is highly desired.
