The Coding Education Auditor - Inpatient will assist in developing education and coding quality improvement initiatives for the Inpatient Coding Division at JHHS. Responsibilities include analyzing, reviewing, and resolving coding and documentation issues related to reimbursement, compliance, and revenue enhancement. The Auditor performs focused second-level coding quality reviews to improve coding quality for inpatient Coding Specialists, documents trends of inaccurate coding, and identifies high-risk areas for compliance issues. Recommendations for improvement are made to maintain at least 95% coding quality across JHHS. The Auditor utilizes the nThrive DNA learning management system for coding education and skill development. They also conduct investigations and research of policies, guidelines, and precedent cases from sources like the Federal Register, AHA Coding Clinic, and AHIMA Journal to support policy development. Additional research includes AHRQ, RAC SOW, OIG Coding Compliance Plan, and Correct Coding Initiative Guidelines to help plan internal audits. The Auditor assists with special projects assigned by the Coordinator, Inpatient Education & Audits.
Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or a healthcare-related field with required credentials, or equivalent work experience (e.g., two years of HIM inpatient coding experience for one year of education).
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required. RHIT or RHIA credentials preferred. Candidate must pass the AHIMA inpatient Coding Specialist IV assessment prior to hire.
Minimum of 5 years inpatient coding experience required. 1 year of education, training, and auditing experience preferred.
Salary Range: Minimum $28.47/hour - Maximum $47.00/hour. Compensation will be based on experience and equity for roles of similar scope and responsibility. Salary discussions during candidate screening if range is listed as $0.
