The Coding Education Auditor - Inpatient will be responsible for developing education and coding quality improvement initiatives for the Inpatient Coding Division at JHHS. The Auditor analyzes, reviews, and resolves coding and documentation issues related to reimbursement, compliance, and revenue enhancement. They perform focused second-level coding quality reviews to improve coding quality across inpatient Coding Specialists. The Auditor documents trends of inaccurate coding and high-risk areas for compliance issues, offering recommendations for improvement to maintain at least 95% coding quality across JHHS. They utilize the nThrive DNA learning management system for coding education and skills development. Additionally, the Auditor conducts investigations and research of policies, guidelines, and precedent cases in sources like the Federal Register, AHA Coding Clinic, and AHIMA Journal to support internal policy development. The role also involves researching AHRQ, RAC SOW, OIG Coding Compliance Plan, and CCI Guidelines to assist in planning internal audits. The Auditor supports special projects assigned by the Coordinator, Inpatient Education & Audits.
Associate’s degree in Health Information Management or a related healthcare field with required credentials, or equivalent work experience of two years in HIM inpatient coding, plus one year of education experience (total 4 years).
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required. RHIT or RHIA credentials preferred. Candidate must pass the AHIMA inpatient Coding Specialist IV assessment prior to hire.
Minimum of 5 years inpatient coding experience required. 1 year of education, training, and auditing experience preferred.
Salary Range: Minimum $28.47/hour - Maximum $47.00/hour. Compensation will be based on experience and role scope. Salary discussions will occur during screening if the range is not specified.
