Job Description

Conducts coding audits to optimize diagnosis related groupings. Develops and implements coding instruction classes. Prepares coding guidelines; implements coding changes.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of coding guidelines and principles; performs coding audits for optimization.
  2. Provides validation and ad-hoc education to the coding staff.
  3. Communicates effectively with coders and CDI staff.
  4. Maintains knowledge of coding policies and procedures.
  5. Stays updated on all current Federal and State coding guidelines and system literature from relevant agencies.
  6. Monitors and evaluates case mix index; demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of case mix indexing.
  7. Reviews potential reassignments accurately and timely.
  8. Implements coding changes and relates them accurately to staff.
  9. Operates under general guidance; work assignments require interpretation and independent decisions.
  10. Understands department, division, and corporate strategies and objectives.
  11. Receives general instructions on routine work; detailed instructions on new projects.
  12. Engages primarily within own function or department, often in a customer service context.
  13. Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities are considered essential under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Coding credential: CER - Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or CCP.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills
  • 1-3 years hospital-based ASU/ED Coding experience (preferred).
Additional Salary Details

The salary range for this position is $62,250 - $100,130 per year. This range is a good faith estimate and may be adjusted based on factors such as location, experience, and education.
