Job summary

Uvalde Memorial Hospital is seeking a Coder I for Clinics to join the UMSA Admin Department in Uvalde, TX. This in-person role focuses on translating medical diagnoses and procedures into accurate billing codes to support proper reimbursement and quality of care.

You will assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes, collaborate with providers, and ensure timely, compliant records. The position requires a high school diploma and certification within two years, with one year of coding experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Experience coding in ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 based on medical documentation.
• Certification must be obtained within two years of hire.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Outlook and EMR systems.

Responsibilities

• Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 codes to all diagnoses and procedures based on medical documentation.
• Collaborate with providers to clarify documentation and ensure complete, compliant records.
• Complete coding within four business days of service to meet departmental goals.
• Maintain at least 95% coding accuracy and adhere to regulatory and payer guidelines.
• Use electronic coding and abstracting tools to support accurate claim submission.
• Monitor workflow to avoid delays and notify leadership if work falls behind.
• Assist clinic staff by sharing coding updates and supporting process improvements.
• Perform additional duties as needed to support hospital operations.
