Job summary

Willamette Valley Medical Center is seeking a Medical Office Assistant-Coder I to join our team in a full-time, on-site role. The coder will apply ICD diagnosis codes and CPT/HCPCS codes to patient records, ensuring accurate and compliant documentation for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing.

The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and AAPC certification. The successful candidate must thrive under pressure and contribute to ongoing coding accuracy and quality

  • AAPC Certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns accurate ICD diagnosis codes using compliant documentation.
  • Assigns accurate CPT/HCPCS codes to records using compliant documentation.
  • Interprets physician documentation within coding guidelines and obtains clarification where needed.
  • Uses reference tools to understand diseases and diagnoses.
  • Performs other coding duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Applies the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. FLSA: Non-exempt

How you'll contribute:

A Coder I who excels at this role:

  • Assigns accurate ICD diagnosis codes, using compliant documentation.
  • Assigns accurate CPT/HCPCS codes to records, using compliant documentation.
  • Applies knowledge of Coding Guidelines to select the appropriate diagnosis code.
  • Uses available research and reference tools to understand the disease process and diagnosis.
  • Interprets physician documentation within the coding guidelines and obtains clarification from physicians regarding vague or ambiguous record documentation.
  • Enhances coding knowledge and skills with continuing education activities as described in HIM.COD.003 policy and by reviewing pertinent literature
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
