Job summary

Qualifications

Job description

Under the direction of the Coding Director, provides support for leadership positions and a division or department by leading and coordinating administrative work, projects and staff. Performs various functions requiring in-depth knowledge of departmental programs, operations and services, hospital policies and procedures, and monitors and addresses coding hold reports. Position responsibilities include assignment of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient accounts.

Job Description
  • Compiles and summarizes data from multiple sources to create detailed documents, reports and high-level presentations.
  • Gathers, enters, and/or updates data to maintain departmental records and databases for final approval by manage.
  • Maintains calendars and meeting schedules, arranges multi-department, hospital and offsite operational meetings, as well as with vendors and customers.
  • Coordinates the planning and organization of departmental events internally and externally, including the arrangements for meetings, travel and expense reimbursements.
  • Submits invoices for approval and payment. Performs access and equipment requests for department staff.
  • Maintains office supply inventory; orders office supplies according to established guidelines.
  • Receives and reconciles supply orders and vendor invoices identifying and resolving delays, billing errors or discrepancies.
  • Assists in the coordination and completion of special projects as appropriate.
  • Investigates registration, billing problems, and billing edits identified by Patient Accounts and Coding Specialists.
  • Works with specialty departments, Admitting and Patient Accounts personnel to resolve identified problems.
  • Monitors abstracting systems to assure that invalid accounts are deleted.
  • Utilizes reports for identifying backlogs. Assigns ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes to inpatient accounts as needed.
  • Keeps abreast of coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements.
  • Brings identified concerns to coding department director for resolution.
  • Attends meetings and educational conferences, assuming personal responsibility for professional development and on-going education to maintain proficiency.
Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent, required
  • Minimum of Associate degree in Health Information Management, Completion of an AHIMA or AAPC Coding Certification program, or equivalent coding experience required
Licensure, Certification & Registration
  • RHIA, RHIT or CCS from AHIMA or a CIC from AAPC, required
Experience
  • Previous office experience

  • Minimum 1 year of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS Inpatient coding assignment

Pay Range

$29.00 - $40.00

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
