Job description

Coder - Hospital Outpatient (Sign-On Bonus $1,500)

The Coder is responsible for reviewing outpatient clinical documentation via Epic and 3M CAC for assignment of ICD-10-CM diagnoses and CPT-4/HCPCS procedure coding systems. The role requires knowledge of coding conventions and guidelines, and the ability to address commonly applied modifiers for hospital outpatient accounts. The coder extracts pertinent information from clinical notes, operative notes, radiology reports, laboratory reports (including Pathology), procedure records, and specialty forms to determine complex code assignments related to emergency visits and diagnostic workups.

Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED is required
  • At least 2 years of relevant coding and abstracting experience in an acute care hospital
  • Experience with Epic and 3M CAC systems preferred
  • Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coding (COC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS or CCS-P)
  • Accredited Coding Certificate from AAPC or AHIMA required
  • Remote position; candidate must reside in Georgia
