Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging (SDMI) is seeking a meticulous Medical Coder to join our Revenue Cycle team. You will review radiology reports to assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes and verify insurance contractual charge agreements, ensuring accurate, compliant billing.

Ideal candidates have active coding certifications and experience with radiology coding, NCCI edits, and Intergy RIS or similar systems. This role is full-time in a sedentary office setting within SDMI.

Qualifications

  • Must have high school diploma or GED.
  • Active coding certification (RCC, AAPC CPC/CIRCC, or RHIT) required.
  • Experience in medical billing, coding, or collections within healthcare.

Responsibilities

  • Review radiology documentation to assign ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and modifiers in line with national standards and NCCI edits.
  • Cross-reference billing records with insurance contracts to ensure compliant reimbursement.
  • Prioritize tasks independently to meet revenue cycle deadlines.
  • Collaborate with clinicians, billing staff, and others to resolve coding queries.
  • Stay up-to-date on coding guidelines, SDMI protocols, and industry changes.
  • Maintain accuracy and adherence to SDMI safety and daily billing processes.

Medical Coder (Radiology)

Position Overview

Steinberg Diagnostic Medical Imaging (SDMI) is seeking a detailed and qualified Medical Coder to join our Revenue Cycle team. In this role, you will review radiology reports to ensure accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding, verify insurance contractual charge agreements, and apply NCCI edits. You will play a vital role in maintaining the accuracy, efficiency, and compliance of our clinical billing operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coding & Compliance: Review radiology documentation to assign correct ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier codes in alignment with national standards and NCCI edits.
  • Insurance Verification: Cross-reference billing records with insurance plan contracts and charge agreements to ensure compliant reimbursement.
  • Workflow Management: Prioritize tasks independently to accommodate fluctuating workloads and consistently meet revenue cycle deadlines.
  • Team Collaboration: Work effectively with co-workers, clinicians, and billing personnel to clarify documentation and follow up on coding queries.
  • Continuous Learning: Participate in departmental cross-training and stay up-to-date on updated coding guidelines, SDMI protocols, and industry changes.
  • Operational Excellence: Maintain strict attention to detail, adherence to SDMI safety protocols, and full ownership of daily billing functions.

Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Certification: Active coding certification required (RCC, AAPC [e.g., CPC/CIRCC], or RHIT).
  • Experience: Proven prior experience in medical billing, coding, or collections within a healthcare setting.

Preferred Skills

  • EHR/RIS Experience: Proficiency with the Intergy Radiology Information System is highly preferred.
  • Radiology Specialty Knowledge: Strong foundational knowledge of diagnostic imaging procedures and radiology-specific coding practices.
  • Core Competencies: Exceptional accuracy, strong organizational skills, clear verbal and written communication, and a adaptable team-first mindset.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Primary Work Setting: Sedentary office/desk environment.
  • Sitting: Constantly (66%+ of the workday).
  • Standing / Walking: Daily occasional movement (up to 33% of the workday).
  • Lifting / Carrying: Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs (e.g., office supplies, files).
  • Limb / Hand Usage: Frequent typing, keying, and handling of office equipment.
