Job summary

Clearview Cancer Institute in north Alabama is seeking a Certified Professional Coder to accurately input diagnostic codes for outpatient services within a busy oncology/hematology clinic.

Your work ensures compliance with federal, legal, and payer requirements while translating physician diagnoses into coding actions; prior oncology experience is preferred, and there is room to grow within our billing and audits team.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Medical Coding or Certified Professional Coding certification.
  • At least 1 year of medical coding experience; oncology experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • Excellent typing with 10-key speed and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Input diagnostic codes for medical services rendered.
  • Ensure codes meet federal, legal, and insurance regulations.
  • Assist in monthly evaluations and management audits.
  • Review patient records to determine condition and treatment.
  • Prepare and review patient statements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We are looking for talented and highly-motivated individuals who demonstrate a natural desire to support the meaningful work of community oncologists and the patients we serve.Job Description:Job PurposeThe purpose of the Certified Professional Coder is to input diagnostic codes for medical services rendered and ensuring that the assigned codes meet required regulations.Essential Job FunctionsInput appropriate diagnostic codes for various medical services.Make sure the assigned codes meet all federal, legal, and insurance regulations.Assist in monthly evaluations and management audits.Understand and translate physician’s diagnosis and treatment plan into code using approved classification systems.Prepare and review patient statements.Read and understand the medical record of the patient and analyze the information to determine the patient’s condition, the cause of the condition, and how the condition was treated.Review the code or codes selected to ensure that it covers all services that were performed for that patient.Other duties as assigned.QualificationsStrong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminologyExcellent typing and 10-key speed and accuracyExcellent mathematical skillsFamiliarity with ICD-9 codes and proceduresExcellent communication skills, both oral and writtenAbility to work independentlyExcellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to meet deadlines.Education/ExperienceMust have an Associate’s degree in Medical Coding or a certification from accredited school in Certified Professional Coding.Must have at least one (1) year experience in medical coding.Oncology experience preferred.Working conditionsThis position works in the business office of a busy outpatient oncology/hematology/radiation/urology clinic. This person does not have direct contact with patients.Physical requirementsThis position requires that the employee be able to sit at a desk and work on a computer for up to eight hours a day.Direct reportsThis position is not a supervisory position.
