Sacramento County Department of Personnel Services, Employment Services Division, is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer Level I/II to conduct field investigations and enforce nuisance abatement, blight control, and zoning codes. The role involves preparing case files, notifying violators, and representing the County at hearings.
The position is flexibly staffed with two salary levels and requires a California driver license and a PC 832 certification within 12 months.
The Position This is a continuous filing exam. Next filing cut-offs are at 5:00 pm on:
9/8/2026, 10/5/2026, 11/2/2026 (Final) Level 1 – $5917.74 – $7194.92/month
Level 2 – $6500.67 – $7901.34/month The Code Enforcement Officer Level I/II conducts field investigations to ensure compliance with and enforcement of State and local codes pertaining to nuisance abatement, blight control, substandard housing, zoning, abandoned vehicles, overgrown vegetation, vector infestations, and other hazardous conditions. Performs related research, notifies violators, prepares and maintains case files, and represents the County at hearings.
Code Enforcement Officer is a single class with two salary levels. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed, and the level at which appointments are made are at the discretion of the appointing authority.

Employment Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Either: 1. Successful completion of 30 semester (45 quarter) units from an accredited college or university with a minimum of nine semester (13 quarter) units in criminal justice; law enforcement; public/business administration, construction; planning; or other closely related field.
Or: 2. One year of full-time, paid experience in the public sector performing sensitive and technical zoning enforcement, vehicle abatement, building inspection, environmental health inspection, code enforcement or related activities.
Note: If the word “experience” is referenced in the minimum qualifications, it means full-time paid experience unless the minimum qualification states that volunteer experience is acceptable. Part-time paid experience may be accumulated and pro-rated to meet the total experience requirements.
Note: If the minimum qualifications include an educational or certificate/license requirement, applicants must submit proof of requirements with the application. Failure to submit proof of requirements may result in disqualification from the examination. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
General Qualifications License Requirement: A valid California Driver License, Class C or higher, is required at the time of appointment. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate California Driver License may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Certification Requirement: A valid Penal Code (PC) 832, Arrest, Search & Seizure Certification or equivalent is required within twelve (12) months of appointment to the class. Failure to obtain or maintain the appropriate certificate may constitute cause for personnel action in accordance with Civil Service Rules or applicable bargaining agreement.
