Job summary

The City of South Salt Lake is seeking an Ordinance Enforcement Officer to regulate and ensure compliance with city, county and state laws related to public health and welfare. The role addresses nuisances, property maintenance, graffiti and blight while coordinating with police, fire and community development.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, a Utah driver’s license, and UOCA certification with the ability to work independently and in outdoor settings.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of local, county and state ordinances and regulations.
  • Ability to issue notices, citations and Notices of Violations.
  • Ability to document and report violations clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols and inspects properties to identify code violations and enforce regulations.
  • Responds to complaints and conducts field investigations with proper documentation.
  • Reviews and educates property owners or tenants on code requirements, in person or by mail.
  • Issues warnings, correction notices and citations to achieve compliance.
  • Coordinates with police, fire and other departments; maintains case logs and prepares court documentation.
  • Testifies and presents evidence in administrative hearings.
