Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage the Code Enforcement Division including supervision of code enforcement personnel.
- Informs and advises the general public, property owners, architects, engineers, developers, contractors and others regarding code enforcement, violation correction procedures and property maintenance standards.
- Act as inspection and or code enforcement liaison to other agencies and departments.
- Respond to code violation concerns from the Mayor, City Council, Director of Administration and Department Director.
- Attends and participates in City meetings as assigned.
- Issue summons and approve summons and search warrants issued by staff. Testify in Municipal Court in code violation cases.
- Develop Division policies and procedures.
- Assist Director with development of division operating budget and C.I.P. budget.
- Assist Flood Plain Manager.
- Assist Police Department with enforcing the cleanup of illegal drug manufacturing sites.
- Assist Fire Department with evaluation of fire damage.
- Directs the department's mosquito control program.
Minimum Training and Experience Required
- Vocational or technical training in building trades, construction management, building inspection or related field.
- Five years building inspection/code enforcement experience.
- Three years supervisory experience preferred.
- Valid Driver's license required.
- ICC Building Inspector, Property Maintenance and Certified Building Official certifications preferred.
- Any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
- Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to construction site hazards such as toxic agents, noise, vibrations, wetness, machinery, electrical currents and/or dust may cause discomfort and poses little risk of injury.
