Job summary

The City of Hayward is seeking a Code Enforcement Inspector II to enforce local, state, and federal codes through inspections and case management of properties not in compliance. The role involves working with property owners, tenants, contractors, and community members to achieve compliance while maintaining accurate records and supporting enforcement actions.

The ideal candidate will interpret a broad range of codes, maintain professionalism, and provide fair, consistent enforcement.

Qualifications

• Two years of full-time experience equivalent to Code Enforcement Inspector I with the City of Hayward.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license.
• Certification as CACEO or ICC Housing & Property Maintenance within 18 months of appointment.

Responsibilities

• Perform inspections to ensure City codes are followed for residential and commercial properties.
• Inspect rental units, motels, and hotels for code compliance and maintenance.
• Explain and interpret building, housing, and related codes to the public and property owners.
• Prepare reports, notices, and enforcement documents; initiate liens or abatement as needed.
• Coordinate with other divisions and agencies to enforce codes and protect public health and safety.
