Job summary

The City of El Paso seeks a Mechanical/Plumbing Inspector to review plans for gas, mechanical, and plumbing systems and ensure code compliance. The role issues permits, conducts field inspections, and collaborates on code updates. Candidates must have four years of journey-level HVAC or inspection experience, ICC certifications, and a Texas driver’s license.

CDL/safety testing may apply. Review of plans, accuracy checks, and detailed reporting are essential to ensure safe, compliant construction

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED or higher and four (4) years of journey-level HVAC installation or modification experience or mechanical inspection experience.
ICC certification as Mechanical or Plumbing Inspector required by appointment; ICC certification as Mechanical or Plumbing Plans Examiner required within 6 months.
Valid Texas Class C Driver's License or equivalent by appointment.

Responsibilities

Review plans and specifications for gas, mechanical, and plumbing systems to determine code compliance.
Issue permits to construct, alter, repair, move, demolish, or replace systems after review.
Perform field inspections to ensure compliance with technical codes and approve plans meeting code.
Submit detailed reports of noncompliance to builders and assist with corrections.
Assist in review, revision, and update of current mechanical, gas, and plumbing codes; interpret codes for professionals and the public.
