Job summary

The City of Aurora is seeking a Code Compliance Officer/Combination Inspector in the Division of Building and Permits to enforce codes across multiple trades including building, electrical, fire, mechanical, and plumbing.

The role requires five years of construction experience in three trades, multiple ICC designations (including Residential Combination Inspector and Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner), and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Five (5) years of experience in construction across at least three trades.
• Possession of minimum three ICC Designations from listed trades, plus Residential Combination Inspector and Residential Energy Inspector/Plans Examiner.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate activities of Code Compliance Officers daily.
• Schedule final inspections for residential and commercial construction work.
• Assist in development and implementation of building and new construction inspection policy.
• Advise in-field code interpretations and perform on-site inspections across multiple trades.
• Review building permit applications for conformance with codes and ordinances.
• Assist builders and contractors with permit applications; review plans with Plan Examiners.
• Answer inquiries regarding codes and safety standards; respond to public complaints.
• Recommend actions including condemnation or other remedial steps; assist in creating Code Enforcement Cases.
• Appear in court with relevant testimony; assist in training new personnel.
