Job summary

The City of Midland, Texas seeks a Code Enforcement Officer to perform inspections of properties to ensure compliance with municipal codes, zoning, and property standards. You will enter inspection data, issue notices of violation, and respond to inquiries from residents and businesses.

You will also research districts and uses, manage contracts for lot clearing, investigate environmental compliance, and educate the public on procedures and city requirements.

Qualifications

• Strong communication skills to interact with citizens, developers, and departments.
• Ability to interpret City ordinances, zoning, and site plans.
• Proficiency in writing clear reports and correspondence.
• Basic mathematical skills relevant to measurements and calculations.
• Competence with office equipment and computer systems.

Responsibilities

• Conducts visual inspections to identify code violations from complaints or routine audits.
• Enters data to generate notices of violation and document inspection outcomes.
• Responds to inquiries about potential violations and explains regulations.
• Researches districts, uses, and plat details to assess compliance.
• Manages contracts for lot clearing, including bidding and payments.
• Investigates environmental compliance issues in response to complaints.
• Educates the public and contractors on zoning and code procedures.
• Inspects junked/abandoned vehicles and derelict structures for compliance.
• Collaborates with departments on special projects.
