Job summary

City of Atlanta is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer to safeguard neighborhoods by enforcing housing, zoning and related ordinances. Responsibilities include inspecting properties, handling inquiries, issuing notices, and coordinating with departments to achieve compliance.

The role requires knowledge of land use enforcement, strong written and verbal communication, and the ability to work under supervision while applying regulations. Valid Georgia driver’s license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of law enforcement or land use enforcement; zoning, health codes, and planning principles.
• Skills in using computer applications to prepare accurate reports and analyses.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain records and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Responds to public inquiries regarding permits and/or licenses, explaining municipal code requirements and procedures.
• Investigates complaints and violations of city ordinances; issues notices of violations and necessary changes.
• Prepares reports and recommendations on code enforcement matters and gains voluntary compliance.
• Coordinates actions with other departments, programs, jurisdictions or regulatory agencies.
• Prepares case information and presents evidence at appeal hearings and other legal proceedings.
