Job summary

The City of Forest Park is seeking an experienced Director of Code Compliance to lead the Code Compliance Department, directing Code Officers and staff in inspections and enforcement of health, welfare and safety ordinances. The ideal candidate will demonstrate outstanding written and verbal communication, independent judgment, and collaborative leadership, with the required housing and building certifications.

Salary range $127,500–$159,700; on-site position in Forest Park, GA.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain Housing Rehabilitation Inspector certification.
• Must possess and maintain Housing Rehabilitation Code Enforcement Officer certification.
• Must possess Building Inspector certification, One/Two Family Dwelling/Inspector certification, and Building Plans Examiner certification.
• Level II GACE Master’s Certification and ICC Property Management Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Direct Code Officers and staff in scheduling initial and follow-up inspections in response to complaints.
• Enforce city ordinances, especially building, zoning, environmental and business licenses.
• Prepare and manage department budget and forecast funds for operations.
• Participate in court activities, prepare cases for trial and testify when needed.

Job description

The City of Forest Park is seeking an experienced Director of Code Compliance. It’s a highly responsible position, involving complex work in planning, organizing and directing the activities of the Code Compliance Department.

The Code Compliance Director will direct Code Officers and staff in the scheduling initial and follow-up inspections in response to complaints of alleged violations of property maintenance, zoning, and other codes related primarily to the health, welfare and safety of the community. Works under the supervision of the City Manager.

The Code Compliance Director enforces all City ordinances, particularly building and zoning ordinances, environmental and business license ordinances as well. The Director supervises staff, coordinates, assigns and reviews work. Maintains standards and monitors status of work in progress and gives advice and direction as well.

The Director analyzes and recommends changes to codes and provides policy direction to staff. Reviews and recommend courses of action regarding revocations/suspensions of licenses and responds to appeals of assorted violations.

The Director prepares, maintains, disseminates and is responsible for records, reports, notices, and correspondence concerning department functions and personnel. They participate in court activities to pursue legal action against violators, review cases in preparation for trial and assess evidentiary/legal issues before the trial. Will testify in court, if necessary. This position will also prepare and manage the Code Compliance Department’s budget, including forecasting funds needed for the operation of the Department and approving expenditures as well.

Hiring Range:

$127,500 - $159,700
