Job summary

Peraton is seeking a Software Developer, Advisor to join the Health, State and Local Sector. You will act as a principal technical contributor on an Agile team, maintaining the Medicare DME claims processing system, with hands-on coding, testing, and mentorship.

The role requires strong mainframe skills and a track record in delivering complex software solutions. You will design, develop, and install changes, coordinate across teams, and provide accurate estimates while ensuring high-quality

Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: BS/BA degree with 8+ years of experience; or MS with 6 years; or HS diploma with 12 years.
  • 8+ years of mainframe development experience in production or maintenance.
  • Advanced proficiency with mainframe technologies such as COBOL, JCL, CICS, TSO and VSAM.
  • Knowledge of health care claims processing, particularly Medicare Fee-For-Service.
  • Ability to perform well in a highly rigorous, structured development environment.
  • Demonstrated experience as a senior or principal software developer in a mainframe environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to determine and decompose business and technical requirements.
  • Application lifecycle methodology experience, specifically Agile/SCRUM.
  • Strong communication skills and technical writing ability, including client-facing communication.
  • Ability to develop application project solutions and provide accurate estimates.
  • Experience with Medicare Part A, Part B, DME or Medicare Common Working File (CWF) processing systems.
  • Experience working with or in support of CMS programs or contracts.
  • Experience with DevOps/DevSecOps tools and frameworks through plan, define, build, test, release and deploy processes.
  • SAFe experience and/or certification.
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Preferred: Experience with Assembler language in a mainframe environment.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, Jira, Confluence, Eclipse (IDz/RDz).
  • Exposure to Java or Python.

  • Demonstrates advanced, practical mastery of mainframe development concepts, practices, and engineering techniques.
  • Consult with team members, cross-functional organizations, clients, and vendors to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Serves as a mentor and technical resource to develop ers, actively supporting team growth and knowledge transfer.
  • Represents the team during client-facing technical discussions, communicating complex issues clearly and effectively.
  • Provide reliable time and resources estimates for your assigned tasks and projects to ensure sprint predictability.
  • Troubleshoot problems independently and deliver effective, well-reasoned solutions.
  • Contributes to the strategic technical direction of the development team and assists in developing solutions to complex business and technology problems.

In this role, youwillserveas a principal technicalcontributor onanAgile teamproviding maintenance and operations support for theMedicareDurable MedicalEquipment (DME) contract.

As aSoftware Development, Advisor, you will help plan, direct, and coordinate software development across multiple functional areasof the DME system.This rolewilloperatein a highly structured, rigorous development environment, spanninghigh-level technical design,hands-on coding, unit testing, and defect resolution.At this level,the candidate isexpected to exercise a high degree of independent judgement, serve as a technical authority within the team, and provide leadership and mentorship to developers at all levels.

The Advisorwill design, develop, and enhance core software programs while adhering to strict coding standards. Quality is vital to this mission,thisrole mustbuild and execute your own unit test plans, test cases, and test data.Additionally, the Advisor roleis responsible forinstalling changes into internal testing regions,troubleshootingandresolvingdefects,and keeping technicaldocumentationcurrent.

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
