Job summary

InterSources Inc. seeks an experienced COBOL-focused software engineer for a 12-month hybrid role in Blythewood, SC. The candidate will analyze, design, implement, and support Phoenix core systems in a Windows client-server environment.

Strong leadership and mentoring skills are required. Role includes on-site training with possible remote days post-training, with residency in SC/NC/GA preferred. Fingerprinting in SC is required prior to start.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6+ years of experience with Visual and/or Micro Focus COBOL.
• Working knowledge of Visual COBOL V9.
• 10+ years of experience developing and maintaining complex Windows-based Client-Server applications.
• 5+ years of experience leading a technical software development team.
• 10+ years of experience coding and testing COBOL-based business systems using Oracle SQL in a Windows Client-Server environment.
• 5+ years of experience providing L3 production support.
• 5+ years as primary liaison with business units for spec delivery.
• 10+ years of experience in system analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the Phoenix core business system and assigned tickets.
• Lead analysis and recommend technical solutions for tickets and projects.
• Partner with business units to develop requirements and specs.
• Translate business specs into technical specs and obtain approvals.
• Code, test, promote, and implement application changes.
• Verify delivered functionality with impacted users against requirements.
• Provide production support for the Phoenix system.
• Lead and mentor technical development resources.
• Provide daily/weekly status updates to management and analysts.

Location: Blythewood, SC 29016 Hybrid

Duration: 12 Months

Interview Process: 2 Rounds – Virtual

Work Arrangement

• Hybrid position
• Strong preference for the consultant to be fully onsite during the training period.
• After training, up to 2 remote days per week may be discussed with the hiring manager.
• Candidate MUST currently reside in South Carolina, North Carolina, or Georgia.
• Candidate may relocate at their own expense as needed to meet the hybrid schedule.
• Fingerprinting must be completed in South Carolina at least 5 business days before the scheduled start date.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze the Phoenix core business system and assigned development or system modification tickets.
• Lead analysis and recommend technical solutions for assigned tickets and projects.
• Partner directly with business units to develop business requirements and specifications.
• Translate business specifications into technical specifications and obtain business approval.
• Code, test, promote, and implement application changes.
• Work with impacted users to verify delivered functionality against documented requirements.
• Provide production support for the Phoenix system.
• Lead and mentor technical development resources.
• Provide daily and weekly status updates to the development manager and business analysts.

Required Skills

• 6+ years of experience with Visual and/or Micro Focus COBOL.
• Working knowledge of Visual COBOL V9.
• 10+ years of experience developing and maintaining complex, mission-critical applications in a Windows-based Client-Server environment.
• 5+ years of experience leading a technical software development team in planning and deployment of software systems.
• 10+ years of experience coding and testing complex COBOL-based business systems using Oracle SQL in a Windows Client-Server environment.
• 5+ years of experience providing Level 3 (L3) production support.
• 5+ years of experience functioning as the primary contact with business units to develop and review business and technical specifications and ensure delivery of required functionality.
• 10+ years of experience with system analysis, design coding, testing debugging, and implementation techniques for developing new systems or modifying existing systems.

Preferred Skills

• Oracle 19+ SQL.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Visual Studio / .NET / C# development environment.
• Experience working in a government environment.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
• Visual COBOL technical certifications.
