Job summary

Tech3pillars Technologies is seeking an experienced Senior COBOL Developer to design, develop, maintain, and support enterprise mainframe applications in Boston. The role requires hands-on expertise with COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, VSAM and batch/online processing on large-scale systems.

You will collaborate with business analysts and cross-functional teams to deliver enhancements, troubleshoot production issues, and participate in releases.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of COBOL development experience.
• Strong skills in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS.
• Experience with batch and online processing on mainframes.
• Ability to work with analysts and cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, enhance, and maintain COBOL mainframe applications.
• Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Develop and maintain COBOL batch and online programs.
• Create and modify JCL for application execution, scheduling, and batch processing.
• Develop and optimize DB2 SQL queries, stored procedures, and database interactions.
• Work with CICS programs and transactions for online processing.
• Develop and maintain VSAM files and associated file-processing programs.
• Perform program analysis, coding, unit testing, debugging, and implementation.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root-cause analysis (RCA).
• Analyze application logs, job outputs, abends, dumps, and system errors to identify issues.
• Participate in application releases, deployments, and production support activities.
• Work with scheduling tools such as Control-M or similar enterprise schedulers.
• Perform performance tuning for COBOL programs, DB2 queries, and batch jobs.
• Develop technical documentation, program specifications, and implementation documentation.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts, QA teams, architects, and offshore/onshore development teams.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, code reviews, and technical discussions.
• Ensure development follows enterprise coding standards, security guidelines, and change-management processes.
